This International Conference is being held to discuss the possibility of a new framework through comparative understanding of experiences of teaching and learning in plural societies in the context of school education across the globe. Papers to be submitted at the workshop should focus on the following broad themes:

Theme 1 : School Education, Pluralism and Marginality: Theoretical and Pedagogical Issues

Theme 2 : Home, School and Community

Theme 3 : Textbook, Teaching Medium and Method of Teaching

Theme 4 : Caste, Class, Race, Gender and Classroom

Theme 5 : Knowledge of the Oppressed, Power and School

Research papers of publishable quality focusing on the above themes are invited form young and established scholars which will be chosen for presentation and intensive discussion in the conference. Authors are invited to submit abstracts (in English) of no more than 500 words as well as academic curriculum vitae. The draft of the selected papers (6000-7000) is due by 30th September, 2007 to ensure that airline tickets and other arrangements can be done in good time. Deshkal Society will undertake to publish a selection of suitably referred papers soon after the conference.

The organizers will provide accommodation and local hospitality for successful applicants. At this stage the organizing team is trying for financial support to cover travel cost for all participants. Applicants are requested to explore other avenues if possible as availability of travel allowance is limited. Air tickets will be issued only receipt of acceptable papers i.e. the paper submission deadline must be met. Abstract submitted after the deadline will only be considered depending on the perspective of the proposed paper in meeting the overall objective of the conference.
